Ok, so I'm thinking about trying out a change to what and how I eat. Here is a typical week these days:
Tuesday through Saturday, I alternate between Noodles & Company and Qdoba for breakfast (breakfast for me is in the afternoon), followed by another fast food place (usually Wendy's, Taco Bell, Subway, or, if I'm lazy, McD's) for lunch, and then home for a small dinner (or sometimes nothing, if I get into online stuff before I make food). On Sunday I have a couple bigger meals, usually eating out for one of them, and Monday I have one big meal, then grab a burger or something before heading out to Karaoke because I forgot to eat a second meal.
So obviously I could stand to change things, from both waistline and wallet standpoints.
Here's what I'm thinking. Tuesday through Friday, I get up and have 3 eggs scrambled, some whole wheat toast, and either some bacon or a Foreman-Grilled chicken breast, washed down with some OJ or AJ. Monday early evenings, I make some sort of big meal, like Chili or Spaghetti, that I can tupperware up and bring in for lunches most or all of the week. Saturday I let myself go out for breakfast, since I go play Magic then, and because a dozen eggs only gets me four meals. For days I don't have a lunch, I keep a loaf of bread, peanut butter, and honey in my drawer at work. It's a decent meal, and it gives me both a snack if I don't eat enough and an excuse to bring in lunch. Basically, that takes care of all my meals except dinners, which can really be small and full of variety, and my weekend meals other than the big one Monday, which I can also vary, as long as I'm eating fairly normally.
In addition, I'm going to cut out fountain sodas. This means from gas stations, from fast food combos, and from Noodles/Qdoba, where I can pick light lemonade instead. I'm not cutting out my soda at home, which I don't drink much of, and I can supplement with juice and milk even if I don't drink water there. I'm not cutting it out at bars, where I generally only have 2 Tanqueray and Tonic these days anyway. Work has an excellent free filtered water policy, which I try to take advantage of whenever I can.
Of course, the counterpoint to all this would be to add some exercise, and I'd like to try, but certain things hold me back. Mainly my neck, back, and knees. If I wasn't in this much pain, I'd exercise, but then, if I had exercised, I wouldn't be in this much pain. Go fig. I'm thinking about walking around my block as a daily thing, or at least a work daily thing.
The hardest part is going to be sticking to it; not because I won't want to do it, but because I'll forget to do it. Or I'll oversleep and not have time to do it. It's my achilles heel: laziness and forgetfulness. It's all a matter of getting into a groove and just freaking doing it. Sometimes it happens, and it's great. Often it doesn't happen, and I go back to old habits. Maybe, if I beat myself over the head enough, I'll take off a few pounds, start living a bit better. Maybe I'll even get a girlfriend.
Nah.
